Koichi Yasunaga

Koichi Yasunaga (安永康一) is a Japanese ceramic artist known for his imaginative, character-filled pottery. Working through his studio Clay Work Yasu in Fukuoka, Japan, Yasunaga creates distinctive pieces that blur the line between functional ceramics and small sculptural artworks.
Cats are among his most recognisable subjects, appearing as teapots, vessels and other playful forms. Each character is given its own expression and personality through hand-shaped details, lively decoration and unexpected motifs drawn from both everyday life and Japanese visual culture.
