Founded in Tokyo in 1899, Hirota Glass is one of Japan’s most respected heritage glassmakers, known for preserving and reviving traditional Wa-Glass techniques dating back to the Meiji and Taishō eras. At a time when in-depth study of these historic methods was fading, Hirota Glass spent years in the 1980s experimenting to resurrect the luminous, opalescent glass once beloved in early-20th-century Japan. The result was the celebrated Taishō Roman Series—a collection inspired by the romance, optimism, and artistic spirit of the Taishō period.

Central to this revival is the Aburidashi Technique, where glass is shaped in patterned molds and rapidly heated and cooled to reveal soft, milky colors and poetic surface motifs. Using raw materials containing bone ash, artisans coax out delicate tonal shifts and one-of-a-kind patterns that make each piece unique.

Due to the delicate nature of glassware, we do not accept returns or exchanges on used items unless they are defective upon arrival.
