Lonesome Studio
Lonesome Studio draws inspiration from the quiet solitude of the creative journey—echoing the spirit of the stream-of-consciousness novel Soul Mountain, where the protagonist travels alone through the untamed landscapes along the Yangtze River, shedding the weight of civilization to reconnect with the purity of the inner self.
Their signature silver-glaze series reimagines a traditional ceramic technique. Rather than mimicking silverware, we fuse silver powder directly onto porcelain through a unique process, producing ethereal ink-like gradients—like mist dissolving into air.
Over time, the silver naturally oxidizes, allowing each piece to develop a personal patina. The result is a living work of art—one that grows richer and more meaningful through daily use.

Artist – Liu Yanting
Liu Yanting is a ceramic artist from Huizhou, Guangdong. She completed both her undergraduate and postgraduate studies at the Changjiang Institute of Art and Design, Shantou University, where she specialized in Public Art and Chinese Folk Arts, with a focus on traditional Chaozhou architecture and wood carving. During her studies, she also worked part-time in ceramic design, cultivating a deep connection to materials and form.
In 2016, she founded Lonesome Studio (Luò Shān Yǒu Wù) in Jingdezhen, China’s porcelain capital. Her practice centers on integrating the ancient silver-glazing technique with contemporary aesthetics and design philosophy, resulting in poetic, contemplative pieces that bridge craft, art, and emotion.

SILVER GLAZE
The application of silver decoration on ceramics is a time-honored traditional craft. Traditionally, this technique—known as “silver glazing”—aims to mimic the look of silverware using ceramic materials. However, Lonesome Studio has pioneered a new approach to silver ornamentation. Through a unique process, silver powder is sintered onto the ceramic surface, creating an abstract, ink-like diffusion effect—reminiscent of drifting mist and clouds.
Since its founding, Lonesome Studio has been dedicated to exploring the expressive potential of silver-glaze techniques in ceramics. Building on traditional craftsmanship, Liu Yanting infuses her work with contemporary aesthetics and design principles, creating a range of everyday silver-glazed vessels—teapots, cups, vases, tea trays, water containers, incense holders, and more.

Creations
Each silver-glazed finish is uniquely crafted to suit the shape, character, and function of the object it adorns. Her work reflects a deep integration of craft, material, and daily use—merging utility and beauty into a harmonious whole.
Over the years, Liu has continually refined her approach. Her latest series, “Evening Moon” (夕月), combines carved clay textures with ink-like silver glazes and layered silver accents, resulting in a unique, abstract ink-wash aesthetic that redefines the boundaries of traditional ceramic art.
